Overview: Set in a brick area of suburban Melbourne this striking renovation and addition makes a statement. With the original form of the house mirrored in its brick clad neighbours, the free flowing installation of radial weatherboard cladding mirrors the leafless shapes of its deciduous front yard tree.

Architects, owners and builder have combined to respond to concepts, needs and the influence of materials. The skill of the carpenters, who have extensive experience in the use of radial timber, is exhibited in their attention to detail and the quality of their joinery.

External use of weatherboards, bevelled edge deck and heavy wedge handrails links inside with wedge stair rails, bevelled ceiling lining and the use of selected weatherboards as architraves and window surrounds. Living areas are complimented by an upstairs millinery studio and external deck.

The house absorbs the quietness of the suburb and despite the activity of unpacking and finishing promises to be a haven of creativity and tranquillity.
